Ukadiche Modak|steamed Modak

 Hey guys

Happy Ganesh chaturthi to all 🙏🏻 You know I feel very lucky that I am an indian. We indians have so many festivals to celebrate and each festival has a traditional and signature recipe like, for Holi festival we have gujiya, on Makar sakranti we have Gur and till ladoo and the list is long.

Just like that we have Ganesh chaturthi and on this occasion every one love to make Modak for bhog as it's GaneshJi's favourite sweet. 

There is huge variety of Modak like Mawa Modak, Chocolate Modak and so many and they are tasty too but the traditional one, those are my favourite they are juicy and I just love them. Although I have cooking channel but it was a bit challenging for me to prepare the traditional Ukadiche Modak (steamed modak) as I was going to prepare them for the first time and I have never tasted them before so do you want to know how I prepared them without knowing the texture and taste, then check out this video 👇


I'm sure you guys are gonna love these mouth watering recipe. Here I'm sharing the written recipe as well.

Ingredients:

For The Modak Dough

Rice flour -1 cup

Water - 1 cup

Desi ghee - 1tsp

Salt - 1/4 tsp

Measuring cup size I used -250 ml

For The Modak Filling

Jaggery ( gur) -1 cup

Coconut - 1 cup (fresh or desiccated )

Cardamom- 1/2 tsp

Ghee - 1tsp

Other ingredients

1 tsp Ghee for kneading and greasing.

How to make filling

1. Heat a deep non-stick pan, add the ghee, coconut and jaggery.  Cook until jaggery melts and you get nice juicy combined mixture. It will take 5 to 7 min. 

2. Then sprinkle the cardamom powder and mix well.

3. Keep aside and let it cool down.

How to make the dough  

1. For preparing the dough boil 1 cup water in a non-stick pan.

2. Add ghee and salt and allow water to boil.

3. Once boiled add the rice flour and mix it quickly with a spoon or spatula.

4. Once it start coming together, close the lid and keep aside for 5 min.

5. Start kneading the dough with your palms. Dough should be smooth. If you feel the dough is dry            then  and 2 to 3 spoon of warm water and knead again.

6. Take small portion of the dough roll in between your palms and check there should be no cracks.            divide the dough into equal portions. Take a portion of the dough roll into a ball,flatten it,form a disc      shape.

7.Give it a shallow bowl shape by pressing the edges and forming the dent.

8. Place a portion of the filling in the center.

9.Press the edges and create the pleats.

10.Get the pleats together in the center and seal it well.

11. Close the top by pinching and cut the extra dough if required and make it pointed.

12.Repeat all the steps to make remaining modaks.

13. Heat water in the steamer, place the steamer plate and put modak 5  on the plate and steam for 10 to      12 min on medium flame.

14. Repeat step 13 to steam remaining modaks. Serve the ukadiche modak warm with a drizzle of ghee and saffron milk.
