Fried Arbi starter
About Arbi/Taro Root
Arbi is known as colocasia or taro root in English. It has different names in different languages. Brown colour skin with white pulp inside, arbi is a root vegetable. It is an easily digestible and loaded with minerals and vitamins that are essential for human health.
Arbi, being rich in fibre keeps your stomach full for longer time and reduce the numbers of calories intake throughout the day. Arbi also help eliminate the waste from the stomach and help you to lose an extra pounds. All you need to make this delicious fried arbi.
Ingredients:
- Arbi - 250gm
- Rice flour-1tsp
- Corn flour-1tsp
- Salt-to taste
- Red chilli powder- 3tbsp
- Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
- Coriander powder-1/2 tsp
- Dry mango powder -1/2 tsp
- Oil for frying
As we know arbi is a root vegetable that is grown underground so we need to rinse it under running water to make sure that all mud and dirt is removed. Boil them in sufficient water in open pan about 7 mins. While boiling add 1/3 tsp of salt.
Don't let arbi to be mushy so keep checking between. Once arbi is done remove from the hot water and put it in cold water and then drain and let it cool on room temperature then peel it and cut into round pieces or you can flatten it with your palm.
Now mix corn flour and rice flour on a plate and coat each arbi in this mixture and fry them on a medium heat. Now in another plate mix all dry spices ( mentioned above) coat each fried arbi piece in this masala. Take another pan add a tablespoon oil and toss theses masala coated Arbi. That's it and your fried masala arbi is ready.
You can also prepare arbi roll with its wide leaves.
